One of my earliest memories is paying for my weekly school lunch. The cost was $2.50 and my parents would give me $3 and let me keep the .50 in change. Each week, I would take those two quarters and stack them in the top drawer of my desk. I would count and recount them, waiting for the week when it reached $10, and with Christmas joy, I would wrap them in a $10 coin wrapper, saving for my next baseball mitt. So I guess it is not surprising that I would become an investment advisor!

I still love turning quarters into savings. It’s a joy working with clients in building their retirement nest egg, providing them reliable retirement income, or helping them save for their children’s/grandchildren’s college education. We all have a talent in life, and while I wish mine was to throw a baseball 95 mph, it seems I was destined to work with finances.

As an undergraduate at the University of Richmond, I was drawn to the study of economics and was elected president of the Economics Club my senior year. After working in the insurance industry upon graduation, I was very fortunate to associate with Commonwealth Financial Network®. I selected Commonwealth because they work with independent advisors. I started Miller Investment knowing I wanted to operate my business on my terms: selling the products and services I deemed best and to charge the fees that I feel appropriate. As a small business owner, I have the luxury of spending time and attention with every one of my clients!

While nothing replaces the value of old-fashioned experience, having professional designations is important. They afford the opportunity to gain a more robust knowledge of specific areas of a practice. That is why with my Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Chartered Retirement Plans SpecialistSM (CRPS®), and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designations, you can be comfortable that I not only have the practical but professional expertise to handle your financial life.

My business has grown over the years, and for which I am truly grateful. I work with a select number of clients, assuring them personal attention, the type of service I would expect. While I will continue accepting a limited number of new clients, I will not allow it to get beyond a level that I cannot guarantee my high standard of quality, personal service.

As a local business owner, I believe strongly that I have a duty and obligation to give back to the community that supports me. This community spirit has been passed down from generation to generation. I have been, and am still, active with many great local non-profits including:

The Boys and Girls Club of the LNV, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Seymour-Oxford Rotary, Valley United Way, The Derby Historical Society, St. Thomas Church Parish Council, Oxford Quarterback Club, Oxford School & Field Planning Committee, Oxford Board of Education

I have been married to Stephanie McCarthy Miller for more than 30 years. Stephanie is a retired educator. We have three sons: Mason, who is a Lieutenant in the US Army stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs; Andrew, works for his alma mater Stonehill College in the advanced giving department and Alex is coaching baseball at the Clubhouse in Fairfied CT
